21st Century Holding Co

21st Century Holding Company operates as a vertically integrated insurance holding company, which, through its subsidiaries, controls substantially all aspects of the insurance underwriting, distribution, and the claims process. The company underwrites standard and non-standard personal automobile insurance, flood insurance, general liability insurance, mobile home insurance, and homeowners' property and casualty insurance. It also has underwriting authority and process' claims for third party insurance companies. Besides, the company offers financial services to its insureds, as well as insured of third party insurance companies. In addition, it offers other ancillary services, including licensing of its tax preparation software products, electronic income tax filing, tax preparation, and tag and title transfer services; and offers single and master franchise opportunities to individuals. The company markets and distributes its own and third-party insurers' products, and its other services primarily in central and south Florida through a network of company-owned agencies, franchised agencies, and approximately independent agents. Company-owned and franchised agencies are located in Miami-Dade, Broward, Palm Beach, Martin, Orange, Osceola, Volusia, and Seminole Counties, Florida. Independent agents are located primarily in south Florida. The company competes with U.S. Security Insurance Company, United Automobile Insurance Company, Direct General Insurance Company, and Security National Insurance Company, as well as major insurers, such as Progressive Casualty Insurance Company. In June 2003, Richard A. Widdicombe was named chief executive replacing Edward J. Lawson, who remains President and Chairman.
